Christmas Dinner Ideas
Before we dive into dessert ideas, I just wanted to share some of my favourite savoury recipes which might help in the planning. As a dedicated carnivore, turkey is my main centerpiece of choice but many of my side dishes are vegan and suitable for all.
You do like Christmas pudding? You want to make Christmas pudding and another dessert? Genius move. Make it quick and simple by making my easy Microwave Christmas Pudding – make it anything up to 6 weeks in advance or the day before serving!
Whilst traditional Christmas pudding with lashings of brandy butter or cream will always likely remain a must for many people, there are just as many of us that aren’t keen. And another bunch of folks who might just want something a little different. Or, lets face it, something a little lighter after a big dinner.
So here are a few options of alternative recipes to try this year.
Double Chocolate Cheesecake
Cheesecakes are always a favourite around Christmas, especially with no-bake options being so quick and easy to make. Plus they are easy to make in advance and store for a day or two until they’re needed to be served.
Christmas Rocky Road
It isn’t all about dessert on the big day. Sometimes we just want some easy festive treats to keep on hand over the holiday period. Bars and slices like rocky road are a great fun to make with no baking. And they’re super customisable too.
BLACK FOREST CAKE – AN ICONIC GERMAN GÂTEAU
With chocolate, booze, cherries and cream, Black Forest cakes are to my mind, pretty christmassy! A little retro, totally delicious and a real Christmas showstopper!
Dense Chocolate Muscovado Cake
My recipe for a single layer, unadorned gooey chocolate cake is super easy, and most importantly super versatile. Keep it classy with simply a dusting of icing sugar and cocoa, pile on the fresh cream for pillowy decadence or create layers and fully frost for a real centerpiece!
Crumble Topped Mince Pies
Ok so mince pies aren’t exactly an alternative dessert idea as such but these are a little different to the norm with their crumble topping. And to make that makes them perfect to serve a little warm with brandy sauce for a smaller, less substantial dessert!
