If you’re looking for some inspiration for Pancake Day or simply fancy some pancakes for breakfast, brunch, lunch, tea or dinner, there is a recipe for you. In this roundup I’ve put together the Best Pancake Recipes including sweet, savoury, vegan, gluten free options and even a couple of really fun ones for big and little kids alike!

Pancakes are absolutely not just for Pancake Day. Although I do like to really go quite hard on Shrove Tuesday too. In fact, I like to go for at least two varieties if not three.
A savoury option for the main course, a sweet one for afters and if I’m feeling really sprightly, I might make some for breakfast too. Any excuse really.
There are so many options to choose from. You can opt for a thin, crepe like European pancake and flavour them, top them or stuff them.
Or make something more akin to the thicker, fluffier American style pancake. You can add in all sorts and top them with even more options. This type tends to be on the sweeter side but you can also accompany them with savoury items, especially at breakfast.
And then there are a whole myriad of other options from around the world. Whether that’s a chickpea flour pancake, a hybrid American/French gluten free buckwheat pancake or little pofferjes from the Netherlands. So there is no need to stick with tradition, there are plenty of ways to think outside the box!

Pancake Toppings and Sauces
It isn’t just the basic pancake that you can vary. You can take the most basic of pancakes recipes and mix things up by varying the toppings. From fruit coulis, compotes, jams and sweet sauces to savoury toppings and stuffings.
Some of my favourite sweet options are:
- Ginger & Peach Compote
- Vegan Mango Coconut Ice Cream
- Chocolate Fudge Sauce – Charlotte’s Lively Kitchen
- Butterscotch Sauce – Charlotte’s Lively Kitchen
- Vegan Chocolate Sauce – Fuss Free Flavours
- Figs with White Chocolate Sauce – Farmersgirl Kitchen
- Rhubarb, Lemon & Vanilla Jam – Fab Food 4 All
- Honey Roasted Nectarine Ice Cream – Fuss Free Flavours
- Simple Strawberry Sauce – Kitchen Sanctuary

And here are some of my favourite savoury options:
- Creamed Mushrooms with Oregano
- Sausage Gravy
- Asparagus with Prosciutto & Poached Eggs
- Baked Beetroot with Honey – Farmer’s Girl Kitchen
- Sausage & Mushrooms with Cider & Mustard – Charlotte’s Lively Kitchen

I am personally a huge fan of just sugar or golden syrup on my traditional British Pancakes. Of course sugar and lemon juice is traditional but I’ve never enjoyed the lemon addition.
And then I like to douse my American or Scotch pancakes with maple syrup. Ideally I’ll have them with bacon and eggs too! For a more savoury options, I serve my Sweet Potato Pancakes with Avocado and Bacon for a great Everyday Brunch Feast.

Gosh these do look incredibly good. My daughter goes nuts for these American Pancakes and I have to confess that I don t even bother to make the more traditional types. My preference is maple syrup but I will try to pop some blueberries in as she loves those too!Delicious! Thanks ?? Haha I think I would make the traditional type of pancakes every so often if I could! They turn out horribly when I try. Hope she likes these ones ??

Wow, I thought I had a lot of pancakes on my blog, but I can see I’m seriously missing out. Pancakes are brilliant, they’re sort of basic fare, but also somehow rather decadent. Love them all.
Chloe says
Yes exactly! They’re a real building brick. I tend to keep my atcual pancakes quite plain then gussy them up rather than making fancy pancakes!
